Terrier Notebook: Draft Watch, 2014 Bosscars, Other Terrier News

Here's a look at some recent news of interest concerning Wofford athletics:

Draft Watch

Last year, I watched the the better part of the NFL Draft for one purpose and one purpose only: to see Eric Breitenstein get drafted. Well, that didn't happen, but perhaps Wofford has a chance to have someone drafted this year. That chance best comes in the form of Alvin Scioneaux.  Originally from Garyville, La., Scioneaux recorded 75 tackles for the Terriers last season and played in the 2014 College All-Star Bowl, along with teammates James Zotto, Ty Gregory, and Jared Singleton.  Scioneaux, who is 6'2'', and weighs 235 pounds, received Preseason All-American honors in 2013 and SoCon first-team notoriety in 2011 and 2012, along with last season.

The Advocate reports that Scioneaux will go back to his local roots to take part in a New Orleans Saints workout.

Another notable Terrier that won't be returning is running back Donovan Johnson.  Affectionately called "D.J." by Terrier fans, Johnson helped fill the hole left by Eric Breitenstein last season.  Also, OL/C Jared Singleton, who also earned All-American honors as a Terrier, safety James Zotto, and P/K Kasey Redfern are other big losses.

The 2014 Bosscars

Some highlights from this year's athletic awards, the Bosscars:

• Men's Basketball: 2014 SoCon Champion Men's Basketball earned awards for Most Outstanding Team and Best Team Comeback.  Additionally, head coach Mike Young was named Coach of the Year, while Karl Cochran earned Male Student-Athlete of the Year honors.  The Male Rookie of the Year was Eric Garcia, and the Best Motivators were Aerris Smith and Lee Skinner.  Cochran's work in the tight win against Elon garnered the Most Pivotal Moment award.
• Maggie Bosley, of the Women's Soccer team, earned the Female Student-Athlete of the Year award. Bosley was diagnosed with a severe disease involving the red blood cells after a trip to Argentina. She began receiving treatment and the prayers and support of the Wofford family (including the #KickThisBoz campaign), and recovered in time to see the Terriers clinch the 2014 SoCon Men's Basketball title.
• Oddly enough, the Football team did not receive any awards.

Other News

• Wofford's new live Boston Terrier mascot will be introduced during tomorrow's home baseball game against UNC-Greensboro.
• Wofford College again was recognized as having the highest graduation rate in the state of South Carolina.
