It's time to take another look at Wofford's 2014 football schedule, which we will continue with the SoCon opener, The Citadel. You can read our new non-conference preview here and earlier previews here.
Perhaps we can carry an offensive spark from the apathetic games against North Greenville and UVA-Wise into our SoCon schedule, which starts with The Citadel's visit to Gibbs Stadium on October 4th.
The Terriers will enter the game riding a fifteen-game winning streak against the Bulldogs, who were defeated by Wofford 21-10 last season in Charleston.
The Citadel will start this season with a new coach, Mike Houston, who spent 2011-2013 with Division II Lenoir-Rhyne, where he led them to last year's championship game, in which the Bears fell to Northwest Missouri State.
The Bulldogs will also be without Ben Dupree, their multiple threat quarterback who rushed for eighteen touchdowns last season, but don't expect this year's game to be too much different than the 2013 contest.
Both teams have seemingly been implementing more and more passing plays in recent years, but both can still pull out the old triple option when needed. Most likely, Wofford will have the greatest luck with the option, and their drives can gel into a solid performance, one that combines short, methodical gains with chunk yardage and passing.
Again, we can hopefully turn our non-conference slate into some kind of energy source coming into the conference fray, and set a good tone for the remainder of the season.
Early Pick: Wofford 38, The Citadel 21
