2014 Football Preview: North Greenville

This article is part of a series previewing the Terriers' 2014 football opponents.  Wofford's non-conference start continues against North Greenville.

On September 13, the North Greenville Crusaders (Tigertown, SC) out of the Division II Conference Carolinas visit Spartanburg to continue the Terriers' non-conference, season-opening block that kicked off with Georgia Tech.  North Greenville finished last season 5-6, which is, ironically, the same record Wofford had in 2013.

North Greenville's 2013 Season

The Crusaders kicked off 2013 play with four straight wins: against Albany State(26-24), new SoCon member VMI(37-24), Tusculum(39-36), and Brevard(41-28).  NGU then dropped a two-touchdown decision at Charleston Southern, followed by a 35-17 defeat at the hands of Lenoir-Rhyne.  A three-point loss at Mars Hill and a 47-26 thumping by Carson-Newman rounded out the four-game losing streak that was snapped by a 38-34 win at Wingate.  The final two games of the season were losses, against Catawba(20-17) and Newberry(55-21).

Terriers in Recent Years Against Non-DI Opponents

Wofford went last season without playing a non-Division I foe. In 2012, however, the Terriers nearly tied the school scoring record, blanking Division II Lincoln 82-0.  The season before, Wofford beat Virginia-Wise, out of the NAIA, 47-14.  This success can be compared to the Terriers' futility against FBS opponents.

The Game

On September 13, 2014, these two teams will meet on the field for the first time ever.  This will be the second-to-last "tune-up" game for Wofford before the Terriers enter SoCon play two weeks later, vs. The Citadel on October 4th.
