2014 Football Preview: Georgia Tech

This article is part of a series previewing the Terriers' 2014 football opponents. The season begins August 30th at Georgia Tech.

Wofford opens up their 104th-ever football campaign on August 30th, a bout with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta.  The Yellow Jackets, of the ACC, finished 7-6 (5-3 conf.) in 2013. Tech's season ended with a 25-17 loss to Ole Miss in the Music City Bowl.

Georgia Tech's 2013 Season

The Jackets opened up play last season with a 70-0 stomping of former SoCon member and familiar foe Elon.  After notching wins against ACC opponents in Duke (38-14) and North Carolina (28-20),  Tech fell into a three-game skid, losing to Virginia Tech, Miami(FL), and non-conference adversary Brigham Young. Getting back into a rhythm, the Yellow Jackets stormed Syracuse 56-0 in Atlanta, and took their next two, facing Virginia and Pitt.  Clemson, then ranked #8 in the nation, held off Tech 55-31 after their off week.  A rebound against FCS Alabama A&M (66-7) and a ten-point, two overtime loss to in-state archrival Georgia concluded the regular season.  The Yellow Jackets fell to Ole Miss, 25-17, in the Music City Bowl on December 30.

The Terriers against FBS Opponents

Wofford's entrance at Clemson, 2011
Wofford is 1-16 all time against FBS teams, the victory coming in 2000 against Louisiana Monroe.  Despite this depressing statistic, the Terriers have had quite of bit of success (not winning success, but more like "run for their money" success) in recent years, save for that blowout last season against Baylor that Terrier fans try to avoid bringing up.  In 2011, Wofford scored first against Clemson, despite losing 35-27 in a game that was tied 21-21 at halftime.  Two seasons ago, Wofford and South Carolina were tied 7-7 going into the fourth quarter, when the Terriers fell apart to lose 24-7.

The Game

Wofford Terriers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
When: August 30, 2014, Time TBA
Where: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, GA

The Yellow Jackets will be a huge favorite coming into this game, and Wofford's disappointing 5-6 showing last season will be no help to their cause.  We've seen some impressive showings from the Terriers in past seasons, and with some roster changes forthcoming, this should be an exciting matchup.
